Custom Channel Letters Signage for Pancharos

Channel Letters Sign for Pancharos in Walnut CreekWe recently had the pleasure of working with Pancheros in Walnut Creek to build and install their new custom channel letters sign at their Shadelands location.  It was an interesting project because the front sign which faces the main parking lot was designed to be ‘halo-lit’ reverse channel letters while the sign at the rear, which faces Oak Grove Road, was created with traditional channel letters that will be externally illuminated or front lit.  Pancheros is a great restaurant that everyone should try if they are visiting the new Shadelands complex in Walnut Creek (or- make it your reason to visit!)  We had a great time working with them and both sets of channel letters look terrific.

Halo-Lit Channel Letter SignageChannel letters are the lifeblood for exterior business signage.  Traditionally they consist of 5” deep formed letters with interior lights which shine out through an acrylic face, but there are many variations.   A long time ago, the illumination of these types of signs were done by neon bulbs, but LED lights have since taken over the illuminated market. Reverse lit channel letters have also evolved in other ways and the current popular trend is ‘halo-lit’ channel letters.  In this case, the light is still contained within each letter, but rather than projecting through the face, the light comes out the back of the letter and reflects off the wall behind.  This creates a ‘halo’ effect around the letters at night.  These types of letters are generally aluminum on all sides, which allows for a cleaner look during the day in addition the cool crown of light around each letter of the sign at night.  Many cities are adopting sign guidelines that favor halo-lit letters.

The front sign a Pancheros, Walnut Creek, is actual two different variations of what can both be called ‘halo-lit’ lettering.  Of course, the main letters are pan-faced aluminum channel letters as described above.  The other version is on the logo where we used a ‘push-through acrylic’ technique.  In this instance, clear acrylic is pushed through an aluminum circle.  The face of the acrylic is then covered in a double layer of vinyl to combat its translucent properties.  Thus, when the internal lights are turned on, the only area where the LED light can escape is through the edges of the acrylic- creating a unique ‘halo-effect’.

Why You Should Consider a New Business Sign for the New Year

Outdoor Business SignsThe New Year: when calendars are rolled over from 2016 into 2017, gyms and health clubs are packed, and half the office is on a brand new diet. Of course, despite our best intentions, the vast majority of our New Year resolutions end up forgotten or discarded, but when it comes to your small business signage you have a chance to make a real, meaningful change that will benefit your business for years to come: install a brand new sign!

Here’s why this idea makes so much sense and why you should consider making the change for your storefront:

New Year, New Mojo

The start of a brand new year is an opportunity for people and companies alike to change their approach and refine their image. While, for many, that means losing a few pounds or putting on some muscle, for a business it can mean a time to rebrand and come up with a fresh face to present to clients and customers. Even if you use the same typeface and logo, a new sign can rearrange these familiar elements and give you the ability to present yourself and your company in a fresh light and claim new attention. You can even use the effort as a catalyst to finally go through with a company-wide rebranding, from logo to color scheme and all the way back. If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to make a change, the start of the New Year is perfect.

Winter Nights

During the winter the days are significantly shorter than during the summer, which means that your old business sign may not be as visible due to lower light conditions. The New Year is a perfect time to update to a new look that features high-performance, low-cost LED lighting that can cut through the night and give you more brand exposure during evening and morning hours. Plus, if you’re using old-fashioned neon lights, the change to LEDs can cut down your sign’s power consumption and maintenance costs dramatically.

Budget Concerns

Scheduling a December or January replacement also gives you options as far as budgeting and taxes. Your new sign is a business expense, and therefore can come out of your company’s taxable income. You can schedule and pay for the sign in the December and take it out of the old year’s taxes, or wait until your profit figures are in and use some of that profit to pay for the upgrade in January instead.

No More Holidays

After Christmas and New Year’s there is a long stretch without holidays to use in your promotions, and that can be hard on sales. Without much around to celebrate a rebranding and new business sign can be a good tool to use to pull in more visitors and bolster business until Valentine’s Day.

Sequoia Signs Is Open for Business

And we’ll have more than enough time to help you and your company with personal attention and high quality design services.

After the rush of the holiday season the New Year is ideal for stepping back and taking a new, fresh look at things. If you’re a small business owner or manager in the Walnut Creek, CA region, make it your New Year resolution to update your business sign. The team here at Sequoia Signs & Graphics, Inc. would love to help you with all your business sign needs. Just let us know by calling (925) 300-1066 and we’ll be in touch!

Sign Lighting: Neon vs. LED

Outdoor Illuminated SignsNeon outdoor signs are a classic, appearing in countless movies and iconic images and coming to define the look of entire artistic genres. The warm, flickering light generated by neon has illuminated famous streets and local landmarks across every state and every nation of the world for generations.

However, neon lights have their downsides and the older technology is rapidly being supplanted by a new lighting competitor: LEDS. Let’s take a look at how the two options fair in a head to head competition.

LEDs Vs Neon for Sign Lighting

1. Construction

Neon lights are constructed with the glass tubing that has been familiar to advertising for decades. Unfortunately, glass neon needs to be refilled and serviced periodically and the tubes are fragile and break often, and as a result neon lighting is infamous for being expensive to maintain.

LEDs, on the other hand, are constructed from strings of Light Emitting Diodes spaced in such a way as to create a constant glow along the various features of the signage.  These strings are encased in a flexible plastic housing that is wear-resistant and weatherproof, greatly diminishing the chance of breakage. In fact, LEDs are generally considered the lowest maintenance, most reliable lighting option available today. A single strand of LEDs can last 10 years before needing to be replaced.

2. Brightness

While neon looks great during a dark and rainy light, neon has never been famous as a particularly bright light source.

LED displays, on the other hand, are intensely powerful and can give their signage a crystal-clear visibility boost even in broad daylight.

3. Energy Use

Energy conservation is a hot topic, and in this area neon has always been a problem. Neon runs hot and uses a huge amount of energy, most of which is lost as heat instead of light.

LEDs run cooler (though brighter) and use a tiny fraction of the energy of older technology. In fact, while a glass neon sign may use 15,000 volts to light up the night, a comparable LED sign would use only 24. The total savings are anywhere from 5 to 10 times less, which can save a tremendous amount of power over the years and have a dramatic impact on a company’s monthly and yearly energy expenses.

4. Cost

Not only is neon more expensive to maintain in the long term, but it’s is also somewhat more expensive to buy initially. Comparable LED signs, while not tremendously cheaper, have a lifetime operational cost that is a slim fraction of neon, making them the better option in both the short and especially the long-term.

All technology changes with time, and when a new option comes along that is cheaper, more efficient, and performs better, the choice becomes obvious. If your business would like to invest in an LED-equipped sign that stands out and makes a statement, contact the expert sign makers at Sequoia Signs & Graphics Inc. Call us at (925) 300-1066 to make an appointment today.

6 Lessons for Great Business Directional Signs

Directional Business SignsIf your company is located off the beaten path it can severely limit your foot traffic and hold back your business. Of course, thanks to the internet and social media (not to mention television and radio) there are still plenty of ways to reach customers who are out of eyesight, but that doesn’t diminish the importance of having good old fashioned directional signage on main roads to promote awareness of your brand and lure in the customers you depend on.

So, if you are looking to expand your advertising program with new directional signs, consider these 6 lessons for great directional signs and why each one matters when it comes to reaching out to customers in your area.

1. Keep It Simple

The customers who see your signs will almost certainly be in motion, and when you look at motorists that means you may only have 2-5 seconds to reach them. That brief window won’t give you the time to transmit a complex message or appeal, but it will give you the time to show off your logo and identify your business and industry.

2. Aim for Clarity

Contrast and clarity are intensely important for wayfinding signs. Not only will high contrast designs and designs featuring large, simple text make your sign stand out, it will be simpler to read and far more memorable as well.

3. Don’t Leave Gaps

Perhaps you are close enough to a main road to make do with two signs. If so, great! Just make sure that you take the time to look at your signs from the perspective of a customer and follow their direction as if you had never been to your own front door before. If you find any gaps in the directions or notice that customers are being misled, make sure that your trail is patched with new signs to help get your customers to your door. A breadcrumb trail doesn’t work if you leave gaps in the middle.

4. Check out Local Traffic Patterns

Putting out signs randomly may not be much help. Instead, take a look at the local traffic and place your signs intelligently based on driver and pedestrian behavior. This may mean placing signs beside other points of visual interest, adding directional features to your signage, placing extra signs further away so drivers have time to decelerate and pull over, or placing your signs on completely different roads if your closest intersection doesn’t have the traffic volume you need.

5. Consider Portability

If you can set up permanent signage, no problem. However, if you are going to be relying on temporary signage that will need to be taken in or moved frequently, you’ll want to consider its weight and the storage you’ll need to manage it. After all, if moving and keeping the signage is a pain for just one day there is no way you’ll want to keep using it it for years to come.

6. Buy the Right Quality

Low quality, cheap-looking signage will turn customers away. Be willing to spend what you need to get great signage that sends the right message to your customers. If you aren’t sure what signage is best for your situation, contact the experts here at Sequoia Signs & Graphics, Inc. As local Walnut Creek sign makers we are deeply invested in our community and ready to help local businesses design and implement the very best signage for them, with directional signs that meet your goals and contribute directly to your long-term success.

How to Implement Custom Floor & Sidewalk Graphics in San Ramon

Custom Sidewalk Signs In San Ramon, CADoes your advertising stop customers in their tracks? It’ should! And that’s why you should consider trying out high quality custom floor and sidewalk graphics to support your other advertising. Floor graphics don’t only boast an attention-grabbing position (literally resting at your customers’ feet), they can be affordably manufactured to be remarkably durable and able to stand up to heavy foot traffic for long periods while still commanding great attention from passersby.

What are floor and sidewalk graphics?

Floor and sidewalk graphics, sometimes known as floor and sidewalk decals, area full-color self-adhesive prints usually made from a high performance vinyl that is then covered with a durable, wear-resistant film laminated on top. These graphics are manufactured differently depending on their destination and intended substrate, with different varieties optimized with laminates and adhesives specially selected for use on concrete, tile, wood, and even carpet.

When would a business use floor graphics?

Due to their position on the ground floor graphics boast some unique advantages in a number of situations, including:

  • Unobtrusive sidewalk advertising
  • Traffic direction down corridors or through show floors
  • Decorative use on dance floors or for events

Because the graphics can be printed to almost any size and installed on huge variety of flooring materials, there are few limits to how a company could choose to utilize them.

How should they be implemented?

Getting started with a custom floor graphic project in San Ramon is easy. Simply call Sequoia Signs & Graphics Inc.! Our expert designers and sign makers will then work with your team to develop affordable graphics that meet your needs and can hold up to heavy wear while providing great impressions.

Of course, designing the graphic is only half the battle. Once your graphic is ready it will need to be installed, a process that can be trickier than you may expect. Errors in this process can be costly, as the vinyl is liable to adhere to itself, fold, stretch, or tear. This can be especially problematic on irregular and hard to clean surfaces like concrete, asphalt, and carpeting.  Fortunately, our local team based in Walnut Creek can help you implement your new graphic for a clean and flawless installation on whatever surface you select.  This service is especially valuable when dealing with large graphics that will need to be installed slowly and with great care, one section at a time.

Make sure to choose a location where the decal will be visible and where its message will be most effective. This may require the inclusion of directional feature or a design that emphasizes a simple, at-a-glance message visible even as other customers continue to walk across the decal.

To get started with affordable, custom floor or sidewalk graphics for your company, call us (925) 300-1066. Our expert sign makers will work with you to design and implement premium decals perfect for conveying your message even under conditions of heavy wear, weather, and foot traffic.

What You Need to Know About ADA Signs

Americans With Disabilities Sign RequirementsThe requirements that define ADA signage came about a direct result of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), an important and groundbreaking piece of legislation signed into law in July, 1990, with enforcement of the law beginning in July, 1991. In general, the law protects the rights of disabled individuals, helping to guarantee their access to goods and public services and prohibiting discrimination in the employment and hiring processes.

Even though ADA has been around for a while, there is still some confusion among business owners regarding what the law requires. Fortunately, we’re here to help.

If you own a business or facility here in Walnut Creek or elsewhere around the USA, you should be aware that any “architectural” signage in your facility must comply with certain rules. In this case, architectural signage refers to any signs that identify a permanent room in the facility, point out facility exits, or which provide information regarding the accessible features of any part of the facility. These rules include criteria such as:

  • Non-glare backgrounds, images, and text to accommodate persons with vision impairments.
  • Dark to light or light to dark contrast between visual characters and the sign background.
  • Easy-to-read typefaces, particularly when used on directional and informational signs which may not use condensed or extended typefaces, heavy or light strokes, or overly small text.
  • Sign placement must be adjacent to the door the sign identifies.
  • Braille inclusion on certain signs, including restroom signage.
  • The use of accessibility symbols, especially the “wheelchair” icon denoting available access for those with mobility impairments.

It’s important to note that signage used only for advertising isn’t considered architectural and doesn’t need to be ADA compliant. Nor does temporary signage used for less than seven days.

Equally important to note is the fact that violating the Americans with Disabilities Act with non-compliant signage can carry heavy fines. Fines in the area of $75,000 (maximum) with additional violations running $150,000 (maximum) each. Even if lesser amounts are fined the penalties from repeated ADA violations can be crippling to a company of any size, and therefore should be avoided at all costs.

Over time these rules have been revised, with a significant updates to the current standards in 2010, known as the 2010 Standard for Accessible Design. While complex, the regulations inside the standard are actually relatively simple to comply with, provided that companies work with experienced sign makers and compliance experts such as those here at Sequoia Signs & Graphics Inc.

Our sign making experts specialize in custom ADA signs for companies of a variety of sizes spread across various industries. If you suspect that your business is not ADA compliant, or you are in the process of opening a facility or company and want to head off problems before they can occur, then our team can help. By working with you at your location we’ll guarantee that your signage is above reproach while still giving you the freedom to decide on designs that highlight your company’s identity and creative flair.

Linguini with sweet vinegar peppers

img_6165Linguine with sweet vinegar peppers
This is a simple pasta recipe I got from my good friend, Kenny Polcari. It is a delicious variation from more traditional pasta dishes.
Ingredients:
A box of linguini
A jar of sweet peppers in vinegar
A tube of sweet sausage (or links if you prefer) -I use chicken sausage but your choice
Garlic (you chose how much- I like 4-5 cloves) chopped
Salt & Pepper
Oilive oil

img_6163

First empty the jar of peppers into a bowl, saving the juice. Slice the peppers and return to the bowl during the process you will be removing most of the seeds as well.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil (or at least start the process.)
In a large frying pan heat up the olive oil (medium-med-high). Add the garlic and brown gently. Then add your sausage, breaking it up with a spoon as you brown it all evenly. Add in the peppers and their juices, deglaze the bottom then turn the heat down to simmer and cover.
Now, add the linguini to the water and cook until al dente (better yet- a little shy of al dente because it will cook a little more in the pan with the sauce.)
Back to your sauce- add some of the pasta water to the sauce and taste- if still too bitter, just add some more water until it tastes right. Season with salt and pepper (add hot pepper flakes if you like)
Strain the pasta when done, reserving some of the water.
Add the pasta to your sauce and stir to combine. Depending on how much sauce, you may add a little more here and cook just a bit more on the stove so the sauce cooks into the pasta. Add a handful or two of fresh parmigiana, and last seasoning and stir one last time.
Serves with some broccolini and enjoy!

How to Design Business Signage to Display Your Oakland Small Business’ Creativity

Custom Business Signs in Oakland CAThe way your company represents itself through physical signage plays an overwhelming role in how well it will be received and embraced by local customers and the community. Great signage stands out in a target customer’s mind and is highly visible, legible, and attention grabbing. Poor signage sends the wrong message, is forgettable, or isn’t easily understood in the first place.

So, when you are designing signage for your Oakland area company, where do you start?

1. Color

Before you can design your sign, you need to define your brand. What are your company colors and why have you picked them? Whenever possible, aim for high-contrast, highly memorable combinations that will stick around in the customer’s mind. Consider Apple’s white and black or Windows’ 4 color scheme (more recently a 2 color, white and blue design), for instance. Both communicate a different message, and both are iconic, clean, and memorable.

2. Font

Different fonts stand out in different ways, and choosing a bad font will absolutely diminish your sign’s effectiveness. While choosing a unique font can showcase your company’s unique offer and creativity, it is crucial that you ensure good visibility through contrast and large easy-to-read text. Avoid scrolling fonts that can be difficult to interpret at any distance.

3. Design

Now combine the two along with your company logo. Not all combinations will work and you may need to revise several times with the help of a professional designer in order to get the result you want. Focus on contrast and keep in mind that your goal is to create a final product that is clean, professional, and which can be viewed clearly from multiple angles.

4. Size

The size of different elements in your sign will depend upon the complexity of the message, the distance of the viewer, and the final position on your property which the sign will occupy. For a powerful and bold statement, bigger features and a bigger sign is better. For a more complex message, inviting the customer to stop and read for a moment, a smaller sign can be just as effective. However, avoid placing small text, small designs, or too much information on a big sign as the final composition will feel mismatched.

5. Lighting

If your sign doesn’t have lighting it will limit the sign’s overall impact. Lighting options draw attention and dramatically extend the hours during which your sign is visible, increasing your brand awareness. If the sign doesn't have a backlight (the most common option), you may want to consider adding spotlights around the sign instead.

6. Placement

Make every effort to position your sign where it will be most visible to passing pedestrians and drivers. If necessary, place the sign at the nearest major roadway with a directional indicator and have a second sign at your facility itself. If possible, you may want to consider trying out different locations for the sign before committing to a final installation. Or, if the correct location is obvious, design the sign specifically to suit that position.

Of course, the best way to guarantee that your sign showcases your Oakland area business correctly is with the help of the experts here at Sequoia Signs & Graphics, Inc. Give us a call today at (925) 300-1066 to learn more about our sign design and manufacturing processes and make an appointment to bring your signs to life today!

So, consider these reasons why a monument sign may be right for your business and don’t forget to visit our homepage today to request a free, no obligation quote.

You Have Property, But Not a Lot of Space

When you think of monument signs you may be thinking of a squarish concrete construction standing proudly out in the middle of a huge grassy front lawn. However, monuments can fit in to any number of locations and should still be considered as an advertising option even if you are short on space. Our designers can help you adapt a design to many locations including medians, lawns, or even that overlooked space beside your parking lot.

You’re Ready to Invest In The Future

Monument signs are made from a variety of materials including bricks, foam, concrete, aluminum, and stone and can be easily illuminated. The final result is a solid, permeant fixture that will last for years or even decades to come. This type of signage represents an investment in the future and can help your company proclaim that you are here to stay.

Your Monument Sign Can Help Guide Customers to You

A lack of visible signage makes it very difficult for customers to find your business. Monument signs provide an absolute confirmation, allowing visitors to navigate to your business and enter with confidence. Place your sign in a high-visibility location for maximum impact.

You Have a Large Number of Local Customers

Monument Signs Think about how many drivers a day go past the place where your sign is installed. If you have a large customer base, a large and attractive monument sign can yield a massive, long-term increase in your brand awareness and garner millions of impressions with thousands of local potential customers. No matter their age, profession, or gender monument signs reach anyone and everyone who drives by your business, walks past it, or even takes the bus. This can add up to a major payoff over time.

Your Monument Sign Should Match Your Company Logo and Theme

Your marketing and advertising strategy, in fact the entire establishment of your brand, hinges on a consistent representation of your logo, fonts, colors, and any all other branding specific to your company. Fortunately, the graphics that you use online and in print can absolutely be adapted for use in your monument signage. Why You Should Consider Window Graphics

Custom Window GraphicsOnce upon a time your average storefront window graphic was literally painted in place, a lengthy process undertaken by a shopkeeper who knew that eventually he or she would need to scrape the paint back off with a putty knife, careful not to damage the glass underneath. Today, thankfully, vinyl decal window graphics are a far more professional affair and a standby for modern storefront advertising. Here are a few reasons why you should give them a look yourself:

They are Inexpensive

Along with the various other signs, banners, and monuments your company relies on, window decals are yet another way to share information with your customers as they walk or drive by. And, square-foot for square foot, they are VASTLY cheaper to produce than permanent signage.

They Utilize a Great Location

Remember: a blank glass window doesn’t tell your potential customers much about your business, products, or what you can offer them. Instead, take advantage of your windows! Not only are windows often located at eye level, they are smooth, transparent, and naturally attract window-lookers. This makes them the perfect location for all kinds of signage. And because storefronts usually feature so much glass, you may have the added advantage of being able to put up signage big enough to be clearly visible at a great distance.

They Can Be Temporary

When you advertise a promotion or special event you likely use newspaper ads, social media, and maybe giveaway coupons. However, it may be helpful to combine these ephemera with something more physical, and window advertisements are the perfect solution.  Window decals are a cheap, affordable way to put up temporary advertisements at your location to pull customers in in support of these other methods.

They Typically Don’t Count Towards Sign Footage Limits

Most cities or commercial areas regulate the amount of signage a business can have and where that signage can be placed. Ignore these limits and you can face substantial fines and the added cost of removing the offending permanent signage. Windows, however, are generally unregulated, allowing you to expand your advertising space and promote temporary events and specials without violating local regulations.

Sunshades and Privacy

Outside of advertising uses, window decals can be useful to block sunlight and increase the amount of privacy available to your staff or customers without completely blocking your windows or eliminating your visibility. You can also request window graphics specifically deigned to be transparent to those inside the building looking out, and opaque to those outside looking in.

They can be Extremely Colorful and Visually Attractive

Human beings are attracted to bright colors and, when you’re out to connect with drivers or passing pedestrians, attractive signage makes a big difference. Increase your brand exposure and make an impact with a design that features high definition, brightly printed graphics and large, clear text for maximum visibility.

If you’d like to investigate window decals for your Walnut Creek or Pleasant Hill-area business, we can help. Sequoia Signs & Graphics specializes in the design and production of a number of different types of signage, including effective custom window decals of various sizes. For a quote or to learn more, contact our team today at 925-300-1066 or info@sequoiasigns.com.

Turn Your Truck or Trailer into a Mobile Billboard with a Custom Fleet Wrap

Vehicle Wraps are an amazing phenomenon.

Who would have given thought to this concept twenty years ago?  Now so many businesses are taking advantage of the great advertising space that has previously been blank.

At Sequoia Signs & Graphics, we love wrapping all sorts of vehicles. Here is an example of a trail wrap we did for Steel Smokin' BBQ & Catering:

Steel Smokin' BBQ Custom Trailer Wrap

Wraps can do several things:

Devil Mountain Diesel Custom Truck Wrap

  • They enhance name recognition- particularly for those businesses that find a unique color, pattern or feel
  • They can increase revenues by drawing in new clients, even those who are outside one’s normal range of business
  • They can increase profit margins if one focuses their vehicle ads to the business segments that are best for the bottom line
  • They can increase moral as employees love driving something that is integral to the business rather than just some white van
  • They can be just plain fun!

While they are easy on the eyes, wraps aren’t necessarily easy to produce.  We have to measure a vehicle carefully and plan where seams and wording will be so that we avoid problem areas.  Sometimes we will print the entire rap whole, and other times we will print the background and then apply wording and logos as a separate layer.  There is really no one method that works best- they both work well -we need to adjust for each job that we see.

Custom Trailer Wrap

Of course, the type of vinyl we use is also very important.  At Sequoia Signs, we only use premium cast vinyl for vehicle wraps, with the corresponding laminate.  3M and Avery are well known to be the best in the industry and that is good enough for us to use these two brands exclusively.

Do you have a vehicle wrap in mind?  We would love to help!  We also offer discounted pricing for fleet wraps.  Give us a call at 925.300.1066

5 Simple Ways to Optimize Your Custom Trade Show Signs

Trade shows, conferences, conventions, and other industry events can all be important opportunities for businesses of any size looking to make important connections, introduce new products, and generate momentum. With so much riding on these frantic calendar days, making the most of your appearance on the trade show floor is vital, and it all starts with custom trade show signs and banners proclaiming your identity and establishing your brand.

Trade Show Displays & Banners - Walnut Creek, CA

If you need high quality custom trade show displays, signs, or banners for an event, Sequoia Signs & Graphics Inc. can help. Our in-house design and fabrication teams will help you turn your concepts into high definition signage that fits your booth design, packs safely and portably, and meets your budget.

This, combined with the following five simple ways to optimize your trade show signage, should guarantee that your event team’s first impression is their best impression!

1. Open up your Booth

Your signs should command highly visible positions in your booth design. However, be careful not to place them in such a way as to close off your booth to foot traffic. Too many exhibitors make the fatal mistake of bottlenecking traffic with obstructing tables or banners, ultimately turning away visitors.

2. Consider all possible Surfaces for Signage Opportunities

Don’t waste space that could otherwise be used to your advantage. Backdrops, tablecloths, paneling, and other often overlooked surfaces are perfect places to hang or print large, attention-grabbing signs without taking up precious booth space. Just be careful not to overwhelm visitors by attempting to cram information into spaces that are too small or which may detract from the booth’s overall effect.

3. Consider Lighting

A great sign is wasted if it can’t be clearly seen. Have backup lighting available in case your signage or demo materials end up in shadow. While lighting (and all electronics) may need to be handled by designated union workers, having a booth that is too dark or winds up in the shadow of neighboring booths makes lighting and visibility an incredibly important factor to consider.

Trade Show Displays & Banners - Walnut Creek, CA

4. Go Vertical

Trade show floors are busy, teeming with exhibitors, installations, milling crowds, and the occasional VIP. In a flood of visual distractions and with space at an absolute premium, vertical signage stands as a great option for many booth arrangements. Not only do vertical banners rise above the crowds to command attention, they can serve as useful signposts for your event staff who need to move around the show floor quickly. Plus they take up little horizontal space in crowded booth layouts. Just make sure that you always comply with your show’s height restrictions.

5. Go Big

Trade shows aren’t a time for subtlety, and with passersby roving through the show quickly and so many other distractions, making your message as clear as possible is important. Use simple, oversize designs on your signs to maximize its impact and help your visitors more quickly understand your company, your product, and why they would want to come inside your booth to see more.

If you have an upcoming event or trade show that you need to have a exhibit or booth created, Sequoia Signs can help you design and build a custom display.  Give us a call today at 925-300-1066 so we can help you Stand Tall And Get Noticed at your next event.

Commercial Vehicle Wrap in Walnut Creek for Absolute Plumbing

At Sequoia Signs & Graphics, we love vehicle wraps!  In particular, we love the combined beauty and functionality of commercial vehicle wraps.  We see so many commercial trucks on the road that are just white- more often, dirty white.  What a waste of advertising space!!!  Study after study has shown that a quality commercial wrap can be one of the most cost effective forms of marketing.

Custom Vehicle Wraps in Walnut Creek CA

We had the pleasure of installing a fleet wrap for Absolute Plumbing on the Ford F-350 you see here.  Absolute Plumbing is a great company and the people there are terrific to work with.  The owner, Rod, called us because he had a few vehicles that he was looking to wrap.  In this case, he already had his logo and much of the design, so it did not take us much time to lay everything out on the truck.  Rod knows his vinyl and knew that he wanted to use premium vinyl for this wrap to maximize the lifetime of the graphics.  Fortunately for Rod, we feel the same way and only use premium vinyls when we are wrapping vehicles.

Fleet Wraps in Walnut Creek CA

For this job, we chose Avery 1105 and it's companion laminate, 1360z.  These have recently been reformulated by Avery and are a very popular product.  Some of the truck contours are fairly complex.   A good vinyl not only lasts longer, but it makes the install process much better, with fewer chances for error.  In a couple places, like with the phone number, we applied a second layer of the same vinyl.  This helps us keep all the graphics perfectly aligned.

At Sequoia Signs & Graphics, we want our clients..AND their wrapped vehicles....to Stand Tall and Get Noticed!  We can help with design as well as the installation. Do you have a vehicle that is in need of a wrap? Give us a call at 925-300-1066.

Ham Soup (with split peas)

I love split pea soup- but who are we kidding? It's good because it tastes like ham!  Let's call it what it is- Ham Soup.

I have tried many recipes and, so far, this is the best.  It is good with ham hocks- but even better if you have a left over piece of spiral holiday ham!  (and you usually have more meat too!)

Ham soup with croutons

Ingrediants

1.25 lb split peas

2 ham hocks (or spiral ham core)

2 large onions (diced)

1-2 carrots chopped

3-4 leeks (sliced)

butter/oilive oil for frying

1-2 Tbsp chopped garlic

3 tsp dried Thyme, 2 tspn winter savory, 2-3 tspn sage

1.5 quarts light chicken stock

salt, pepper and cayenne

Put 2 quarts water in large pot with split peas and ham.  bring to boil then reduce heat to simmer, cover, and let cook 2 hours until peas are soft.  stir occasionally.  Remove ham hocks and separate the meat from bone, cutting into small bits and re-add to pot.

ham and peas

Meanwhile, cook the leeks, onion and carrot in butter/oliveoil mixture until soft.  add the dried spices and garlic and cook for 5 minutes more.

veggies

add this mixture to the big pot with chicken stock and return to a boil.  Remove from heat and add salt, pepper and some cayenne.

bowl of ham soup

enjoy with croutons!!!

Wall Graphics For Business Interiors

A blank canvas is an exciting gateway to an endless world of artistic possibilities. The same goes for a blank wall in your office or front windows. That’s why you need to take a look at the outstanding custom wall graphics available from Sequoia Signs & Graphics, Inc.!

Interior Business Sign Shop Walnut Creek CA - Wall Graphics

/

 What is a Wall Graphic?

A wall graphic, which may also be called a wall mural, mural sign, wall tattoo, or wall decal, is essentially a thin vinyl print carefully affixed to the wall, either for decoration or sometimes for direction or inspiration. The vinyl is precisely cut, vibrantly printed, and should be carefully and precisely installed to avoid air bubbles for a flat, ‘tattooed’ look. The decals can also be applied to windows or glass dividers if preferred.

What Makes A Wall Graphic A Good Option for a Businesses?

Wall graphics are great for a few reasons. Not only are they vibrantly colored and resist fading, but they can be custom produced to any size and any design, allowing businesses to cover entire walls or simply add a bit of flair to a blank space. They are usually cheaper than artwork of comparable size and can be installed and removed with absolutely no damage to the wall beneath.

This fast, clean install and removal process makes decals great as temporary solutions to advertise or promote upcoming events or seasonal programs. Use one in the back office for decoration or order a wide variety for the front windows to keep your storefront decorations and advertising fresh and current.

What Options are Available?

That’s the great thing about wall graphics—you can pretty much do anything you want! Some common options that we see a lot of include:

  • Full color company logos scaled up to fit a large space
  • Hours of operation for the storefront or front desk
  • Important directions for visitors / customers – especially as a custom graphic looks more permanent and professional compared to printer paper signs.
  • Company mottos or inspirational quotes in a decorative font
  • Decorative company crests
  • Full size wall decals of company products or nature scenes
  • Other decorative designs used in place of wall art

Is it Affordable?

Absolutely! Printing vinyl is a very affordable process, allowing countless companies to invest in great-looking custom designs without stressing their budgets. The exact cost depends on the colors, complexity, and size of the design, but free estimates and quotes are always available on request.

How Should We Get Started?

The best way to get started is to call our team at (925) 300-1066. A Guide to Banners: Materials, Shapes & Sizes

Modern trade show and event banners come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some main categories to discuss to help buyers narrow down their options.

Sign Shop Walnut Creek CA - Interior and exterior banners

Common Banner Materials

Vinyl

Vinyl signs and banners have long been the first choice for businesses looking to promote and advertise and it’s easy to see why. Vinyl lends itself to bright colors, is waterproof, can be cut to any shape, and is phenomenally affordable. Along with being extremely durable, vinyl is very easy to print and can be produced nearly on-demand. Use Heavy-Duty vinyl for outdoor environments, matte-vinyl for indoor signs, and glossy vinyl for short-term outdoor promotions.

Fabric

Fabric banner displays are most commonly made from polyester, nylon, satin, or other synthetic fibers. Thanks to modern technology they can be printed and stretched quickly and efficiently and offer an ideal material for indoor and outdoor retail signage. In particular, fabric lends itself to a more comfortable, permanent-feeling banner thanks to its unique texture and warmth.

Common Banner Shapes

Feather and Teardrop Banners

Feather and teardrop banners are low cost and easy to pack up and transport. Looking like a feather hanging off a pole, they are extremely simple in design, easy to set up, and can be equipped with a variety of different fabrics or designs for different circumstances.

Flagpole Banners

While similar to the banners mentioned above, flagpole banners instead use a straight metal pole and a perpendicular top pole. The banner itself is in a rectangle and the entire design can be sized up or down as you have need. Interestingly, scientists suggest that rectangular banners be married with curved graphics, as the human brain responds better to arches than abrupt angles or clean lines.

Rectangular Hanging Banners or Banner Stands

When banners are mounted above an exhibit, hanging for the ceiling, or on a different mount that holds them perpendicular to the ground, they are typically designed to be square. The use of height in these circumstances draws the eye up or down, depending, and pulls visitors into your store or trade show booth.

Common Banner Sign Sizes

Signs can typically be produced for whatever size or purpose you need. However, if you need a standard size rectangular banner some common sizes include:

  • 2’x3’
  • 3’x2’
  • 2’x4’
  • 3’x5’
  • 3’x6’
  • 3’x8’
  • 4’x8’

Common approximate feather banner sizes include:

  • 10’
  • 15’
  • 16.4’
  • 19.7

You should also keep in mind that the thicker your banner material, the more sturdy, durable, and longer-lasting it will be. If you would like to order custom business banners or develop a logo or design today, please contact Sequoia Signs & Graphics, Inc. of Walnut Creek, CA at (925) 300-1066 or via info@sequoiasigns.com

Where Should Your Business Signs Be Located to Reach Passing Drivers?

Deciding on the right location for your outdoor business sign, as well the physical characteristics that go into an effective design and installation is as much a science as an art. Fortunately, the experts at the International Sign Association crunched the numbers and came up with some important guidelines for business owners to consider as they produce and distribute vehicle-targeted signs around a property.

Outdoor Sign Shop Walnut Creek CA - Office, Lobby, ADA, & Vehicle Wraps

1. Arrangement

If you want to advertise to passing vehicles it’s best to use a 1 – 2 approach with a broad storefront sign on the front of your business (parallel to the road) as well as a perpendicular sign built beside the road facing drivers. This arrangement works by putting the message front and center for drivers, as well as along the side for passengers or for location confirmation for drivers who have decided to turn in.

2. Distance

Vehicles moving at different speeds will need more or less time and distance to pull into your parking lot after they’ve seen your sign (the perpendicular one, most likely) and decided to drop in. How much distance they’ll need depends on the speed they are traveling and whether or not they need to switch lanes in order to pull over safely—as illustrated in the following table:

Speed (MPH) With lane change (in feet) Without lane change (in feet)
25-30  410  155
35-40  550  185
45-50  680 220
55-60  720 265
>65  720 280

For example, if the speed of traffic in front of your store is a residential 25 mph, and the street has two lanes in each direction so that a lane change is needed, your customers will need to be able to see and read your sign from 410 feet away. If there is only one lane in each direction, however, drivers would only need 155 feet.

3. Sizing

The International Sign Association recommends designing signs with letters a minimum of one-inch tall for every twenty-five feet of distance from their viewer in order for the signs to be legible and clear. This means that if your drivers need 155 feet in order to pull over into your store, your sign should have letters at least 6 or 7 inches tall. Of course, if your sign features a font that is harder to read or which features more complex elements, the letter height required for drivers to see, understand, and respond to your sign will be increased.

This is also true of the size of the sign as a whole. The further the sign has to be visible, factored in with the number of lanes in the road (which increases the number of visual distractions and the distance of the average driver from the curb) and the speed of traffic, indicate the need for a better sign. Details are in the table below.

Speed Limit  Number of Traffic Lanes  Sign Height (to top of sign face)
25 mph  2  12 feet
25 mph   4  12 feet
35 mph   2     20 feet
35 mph    4    20 feet
45 mph 2 35 feet
45 mph  4  35 feet
55 mph  2  50 feet
55 mph  4  50 feet
Urban Freeway N/A 75 feet

Of course, the best way to guarantee that your sign is built right is to work with the experts here at Sequoia Signs. Give us a call today at (925) 300-1066 to learn more about our process and make an appointment to bring your signs to live today!

5 Locations Inside Your Business Where You Should Have Signs

Interior Business Sign Shop Walnut Creek CA - Office, Lobby, ADA, & More

Great business signs aren’t only for outside your business. They also belong indoors, where they can have a huge impact on your overall business strategy and foot traffic. These locations and signs include:

1. The Lobby

Interior Business Sign Shop Walnut Creek CA - Office, Lobby, ADA, & MoreLobby signs are absolutely essential for most businesses who cater to customers or who have multiple employees. These signs, usually mounted inside a lobby or waiting area, help to establish that all-important first impression with prospective clients and bring a certain respectability and professionalism to the location.

You can also use lobby signs throughout your offices in main hallways or meeting areas, which can help to reinforce your brand and image in the minds of new or existing customers and employees.

2. Storefront Windows

Your company’s windows present a tremendous option for sharing information with potential customers. Information including hours, contact info, specials, and other advertising. Consider removable placards or high quality window clings to get your message out.

3. Restrooms

When you have to go, you have to go. Restrooms need clear signage to guide visitors and help them determine where they need to go and which restroom belongs to which gender. Signs should be installed on or beside the restroom entrances and in main areas to point guests in the right direction.

You should also check to be sure that your signage meets requirements established by the Americans with Disabilities Act, a piece of legislation which states that all public areas must have the proper signs displayed for disabled individuals. This includes braille signs, handicap signs, wheelchair signs, handicap bathroom stall signs and more. As a professional sign maker, part of what we at Sequoia Signs do for our clients is research the most recent ADA codes to make sure you are covered and 100% compliant.

4. Room ID and Wayfinding Signs

Directional signs use clear text and simple icons to assist visitors, customers, and even your own employees with navigation around your site. When done well, these wayfinding signs are unobtrusive and hardly noticed until they’re needed.

The same goes for room identification signs which can help staff and visitors get the right room for their meetings with minimal confusion. Skimp on directional signs and you may find more than a few lost, confused customers and vendors and thousands more “can you help me find…” questions.

5. Trade Show Displays in Your Storage Area

Trade show displays and event displays are mobile, lightweight marketing solutions that can help you and your event team promote your brand to different audiences at local or regional events like trade shows, conventions, craft fairs, job fairs, and more. A good setup may feature products like retractable banner stands, table top displays, demo stations, and more. Combine these displays with custom signage and make an unforgettable presentation setup you can use for years to come.

If you need high quality, custom signage for your Bay Area, California company, then you need Sequoia Signs and Graphics of Walnut Creek, California. Call us today at (925) 300-1066 to make an appointment.

Pickle-brined Fried Chicken

This is from Bon Appetite, September 2014

final-product

Who would of thunk it, but pickle- brine really adds to the fried chicken experience.  This recipe also uses boneless, skinless thighs, so easy to eat!  Don't worry if the name is a tad off-putting....this is really tasty chicken.

BRINE

2 Tbsp mustard seeds

1.5 tsp coriander seeds

1 cup apple cider vinigar

2/3 cup kosher salt

1/3 cup sugar

1/4 cup chopped fresh dill

CHICKEN

8 skinless boneless chicken thighs (3lb) halved

2 cups buttermilk

2 cups all purpose flour (I use spelt flour instead)

Old bay seasoning

salt, honey

for the brine: toast the mustard and coriander seeds in dry sauce pan over med heat until mustard seeds begin to pop (about 3 min)  add vinegar salt and sugar and bring to boil,  reduce heat and simmer about 5 min (they say it should all dissolve- it doesn't)  remove from heat, stir in dill and 4 cups cold water.  let coolin-the-brine

place chicken and brine in a bag and chill 3 hours.  remove chicken and scrap off any seeds (there will be lots)

fried-chixheat 3-4 inches of oil to 350.  while that warms up place buttermilk in large bowl and in another mix flour with some Old Bay seasoning- you choose how much.   coat chicken in buttermilk then coat in flour mixture..pack on flour to create moistened shaggy bits.    when oil is hot- working in batches add the chicken to the oil and fry 6-8 minutes turning once.  (I use instant read thermometer to make sure cooked through)  allow oil to regain 350 before adding new pieces.

lastly- and this is key, once all the chicken is plated, drizzle with honey and top with flaky salt (or just kosher if thats what you have)

final-product

enjoy!

Can a Vehicle Wrap Increase Your Business?

We’ve all seen them out in the wild. Standard model vehicles dressed up in brightly colored patterns and graphics, advertising to drivers and pedestrians alike as the employees inside go about their daily tasks. And that leads a great many business owners to wonder if they too should invest in a vehicle wrap, and whether the investment is worth the money.

What Is a Vehicle Wrap?

First of all, we need to define what it is we’re writing about. Vehicle wraps and fleet wraps are made from heavy-duty vinyl which is professionally installed over either all or part of a specific vehicle. They can be produced for nearly any kind of car or truck and they usually last three to five years before they need to be replaced due to wear and tear. They printed in full color with eye-catching graphics, and can handle a huge variety of patterns, text, and graphic images.

Vehicle Wrap Market Penetration

According to the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA), 95% of Americans are reached by advertisements targeted to vehicle drivers and passengers—and that includes vehicle wraps. Even if your potential customers don’t drive themselves, chances are they take buses, taxis, trolleys, ride bikes, or simply walk on roadsides where they are likely to spot vinyl wrap-equipped vehicles.

Additionally, they are an even better advertisement when parked. This is because customers are generally interested in the decisions their neighbors and friends are making. If one of your vehicles is parked in their neighbor’s driveway, everyone in the neighborhood is likely to notice and remember your company name and logo, and are more likely to turn to you when they need the same service.

Automobile Wrap Price

The exact cost depends on the pattern, the size, and the vehicle selected, but the cost including installation is typically between $1500 and $3000. However, considering how many hundreds of thousands of drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and other onlookers will glance at your vehicle during the wrap’s lifetime, this leaves wraps as one of the most affordable marketing products per impression.

But Can It Work For You?

Vehicle wraps have been around for a while now, and there are countless stories of businesses triggering huge surges in their orders after wrapping even one or two company vehicles. This goes for large companies with fleets of trucks or delivery vans, and for smaller companies that may only have a single car or truck. As long as your design is unique and attractive there is a good chance that your wrap could have a huge impact on your future business!

If you’d like to explore different vehicle wrap options for your Walnut Creek business, give our professional designers at Sequoia Signs a call today at (925) 300-1066. We’d love to show you what’s possible and will work to come up with an affordable solution that meets your unique needs.

The Ultimate Guide to Great Business Sign Design

Custom Signage Design in Walnut CreekMissing signage in retail represents a wasted opportunity. Bad signage represents a costly and easily avoidable mistake. With so much riding on how your company approaches and communicates with your customers through signs, logos, and banners, it’s important that you follow this guide and work with a qualified and professional signage company to make sure that your signs WORK.

Be Brief

Customers are bombarded with stimuli on a near constant basis. Commercials, radio spots, street signs, banner ads, mobile ads, magazine inserts... It isn’t surprising that they don’t have much attention to spare. This information overload makes it increasingly important that you condense your signage message so that your appeal can be taken in in a glance. Short, clear, and to the point is the only way to go.

Choose Your Font VERY Carefully

Font is absolutely one of the most important aspects of signage and a poor font choice can destroy an otherwise high quality design. Avoid garish color combos, curly fonts, or fonts that are otherwise difficult to read or unpleasant to look at. You’ll also want to set your font large enough so that customers can easily make your message out without reading glasses.

Sell An Experience

Say you have a car wash. You aren’t selling your customers car wash soap, wax, and tire shine. Instead you’re selling them the experience of having a clean car and a taking a trip down a fun, colorful, exciting car wash tunnel. And the images, message, and appeal you make in your signs and other advertising must support that. The same goes for a company selling a nice dinner or hair gel. You’re selling the experience and the emotions that your products or services contribute to—not just the product or service itself.

Personalize Your Message

The word ‘you’ (printed or implied) is one of the most powerful words in marketing appeals. “You’ll love how your car feels!” “Look Your Best Today!” “Your new favorite bar!” are a few examples, each of which invites the customer to visualize themselves trying out the service for themselves.

Be Memorable

The whole point of signage development is to come up with a sign that customers need only glance at to understand and which sticks in their memory afterwards. To do this well avoid clich├ęs or sterilized, generic designs and test different options until you come up with a sign that’s memorable, unique, and striking.

Consider Your Sign’s Destination

A great sign is more than a design in a computer. It is a real world execution of that design that is effective in the location where the sign is placed. This placement will affect text size, color contrast, material, mounting hardware, and much more. Keep in mind that even a great design won’t count for much if the sign ends up somewhere where no one looks at it or it isn’t clearly visible due to distance or obstruction.

Work with an Expert Company

At Sequioa Signs we specialize in helping companies of all sizes take their ideas and transform them into award-winning, highly effective signage at an affordable price. If you need a sign, we can help. Just call us today at (925) 300-1066.

Why Your Small Business Needs a Great Storefront Sign

Best Business Sign Shop Walnut Creek CAIn the digital age it can be easy for small businesses to forget the basics, like just how important a good old fashioned storefront sign can be. But no matter how many of your customers are glued to their smartphones or how much of your business has moved online, the physical impact of your small business storefront sign is unquestionable.

Here’s why:

The Real World and the Digital World Are Closely Linked

While more customers than ever before may be using their cell phones to navigate to your business, once they get close it’s your storefront sign that actually confirms they’re in the right place and brings them in. As a result it’s important that your sign be large enough to be visible from nearby roads, brightly colored with good contrast and legible fonts, and distinct enough to stand out from your neighbors.

Alternatively, a great sign can prompt passersby to pull up your company on their phone to scope you out, looking over your info before they decide to give you a try. No matter how you cut it, a great real- world sign is an important part of the modern customer’s decision making and purchasing process.

First Impressions

Like we wrote above, your sign is an important tool for drumming up business on the street. More specifically, it is important that the graphic presentation of your business sign is striking and attractive, making a great impression on passersby which then leads to future business and a broader brand awareness in your area.

On the other hand, a bad sign, one that is too small, tattered, uses a bad font, or looks homemade and slipshod, can turn customers away and create a lasting negative impression that your company may never shake. Remember, your storefront sign represents your entire company, leading to countless first impressions. Make sure they are good ones.

For Local Regulators

Your company needs a well-designed sign that works for more than only customers. You also need a sign that complies with zoning restrictions and other official guidelines in your area. For instance, many cities specify size limits, prohibit LED equipped signs, or require signs to be approved in order to ‘fit in’ with the rest of the neighborhood.

During these approvals it’s vital that you work with a sign maker who is able to navigate these limitations while still designing a sign in a style and material that absolutely shines. They should be able to either take an existing logo that you love and transform it into a pleasing and functional design, or help you start fresh with a new logo that truly captures your company, your product, and your brand.

And if you live in Walnut Creek, CA, that sign maker should be Sequoia Signs and Graphics, Inc.! We have decades of experience helping small businesses just like yours make the important decisions they need to make to craft the perfect sign for their needs. And we can manufacture that sign in high quality materials that will look great for years to come.

To learn more about your options, or to check prices, materials, or look at some of our past work, check our homepage now or call us at 925.300.1066. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Mom’s Bok-Choy Oh, Boy

A couple years ago I was visiting my Mom and she served me this little dish that has become a staple at my home. Never saw this as a kid- but I wouldn't have eaten it anyway!
It proves that you can never stop evolving in the kitchen! Anyway, this is super simple.
bok choy oh boy ingredients
Ingredients:
Bok Choy (chopped)- lots because it REALLY cooks down
Shallots (slided thin)
Mushrooms (sliced thin)
Garlic (chopped finely)
Soy sauce
Crystalized Ginger

Saute the shallots over medium heat until lightly brown. Add the garlic and cook a little bit, then add the bok choy & mushrooms and saute until cooked through.almost there

As the boy choy starts to cook, add some soy sauce to the pan and a handful of the ginger.
My wife will tell you I prefer recipes that have repeatable formulas- but this really is one that is best to just add as you see fit.
It makes a wonderful side for almost any protein.

enjoy!

7 Questions To Ask Your Custom Business Sign Maker

Ordering a sign for your business is a huge step, and one that should be handled by an expert sign maker who’s up to the challenge. So, before you place your order, ask your chosen sign service the following 7 questions:

1. Can I See Your Portfolio?

Different custom sign makers specialize in different types of signs, and while it’s possible that your sign maker may have the range to produce the exact sign you want, you are still best off making sure that they’ve had success with your sign type in the past. Have them show you past projects and use those results to decide if they are the right provider to bring your concept to life. And who knows, you might spot another option that catches your eye, meets your needs better, or saves you money.

2. Who Handles the Design Work?

Don’t worry if you don’t or can’t draw up your sign design yourself. Developing a sign from scratch requires specialized skills, talent, equipment, and some technical know how too. For this reason, most professional sign makers use a graphic design team who can help clients like you take your vision and convert it into a great design. So ask if graphic design services are available, and if the cost is included in your sign making fee.

3. What Programs or File Formats Can You Work With?

There are perhaps a dozen file formats commonly used by custom sign makers and graphic designers, many of them specific to particular high-end graphic design programs. If you plan on bringing your own design or providing frequent feedback you should make sure that you have the ability to provide and receive information in a compatible format.

4. Do You Provide Proofs?

Proofs are final designs submitted for approval before the sign is produced. While digital proofs are generally free, it isn’t uncommon for sign makers to charge for hard copy printouts.

5. What Will The Final Cost Of The Sign Be?

As with many major services, hidden fees like design, labor, or proofing fees can unexpectedly increase the total cost of your sign. Ask directly and make sure that your initial quote includes all expenses so that you know exactly what the total on your bill will be.

6. When will Delivery / Installation be Complete?

Cost overruns aren’t the only danger when you order a custom sign. Delays and missed deadlines can also take what should be a simple and rewarding purchase and turn it into a source of frustration. Ask up front how long it should take until the sign is finished and ready for delivery or installation, and get the date in writing in the event that that deadline is missed.

7. What Maintenance Will the Sign Require?

We’ve all seen once-great business signs that have fallen apart due to weathering and neglect. Make sure you understand how to care for your sign in order to protect your investment and keep it looking great, whether that means stocking a few replacement bulbs or scheduling a seasonal cleaning.

If you need a custom sign solution for your business or organization in the greater Bay Area of California, contact Sequoia Signs & Graphics at (925) 300-1066. We have the tools, experience, graphic design service, and installation service you need to bring your next great sign to life!

Ok, so you’ve just gone out and wrapped your work vehicle.  Maybe it was a truck, a van, box truck- and you love it!  I am sure you do- that’s because you took the time to work with a designer on an eye-catching design.  You also talked with your local sign maker about the different vinyl that are available and selected the best option for you.  Great.  Life is good.

…until your 10 yr old daughter comes to work and says “Daddy [Mommy]! What did you do to our truck?”

Huh?  I guess she doesn’t understand how many compliments you have already received from your clients.  She hasn’t calculated the (very low) cost per eyeball over the lifetime of the wrap- has she?  She doesn’t understand that you are establishing a brand in the area.

OK- so here are the top 5 ways you can explain your wrap to your daughter:

  • Honey, that white truck used to be a blank canvas driving all around town. It never helped me and it certainly did not impress my customers.  Now, it is working 24/7 for our company and is seen all over town!
  • Sweetheart, I took some of your college savings and invested in that wrap. Here’s the cool thing, unlike a stock which can go up or down, I know I’m going to get my money’s worth.  Our truck is seen all over town, creating impressions on potential new customers and reminding old clients that we are always there when needed!
  • Everyone knows our storefront, right? Well, the problem is, they don’t always drive by our door.  This way, it is like our store keeps driving around town so that everyone can see us.  And it is helping to build our brand.
  • See how you reacted? It made you think “wow, what happened?”  Well that is how everyone reacts when a well-designed wrap rolls into view.  This is one of the most powerful advertising statements a small business can make.  Beyond that, people know that we are invested in the business.  We care enough to brand our vehicles.  How cool is that?
  • Honestly, it was white when I gave it to Mom last night. Go ask her.

The 9 Most Popular Business Signs and Where you Should Use Them

1. Outdoor Sign LetterRodie's Wall Sign

Your business letters are front and center when it comes to proclaiming your business to the world. Place them outside your business, above your entrance or windows. If the door entrance is not directly below the signs for some reason, then you may want to support your sign letters with a small window graphic on the glass portion of the door, or another small sign beside the door if that is not possible.

2. Outdoor Lighted Business Signs

ststandard-channel-lettersLED-illuminated outdoor business signs serve the same purpose as the sign letters above, but lighted elements increase visibility during early morning or late evening hours. If your business stays open late or faces a main road, lighted elements may be worth the extra cost in order to increase your branding and advertising presence during dark hours.

Wall Graphics for WCASOnce customers enter your business, following the direction provided by your main business signs, it’s nice to continue branding in order to reassure them that they are in the right place and provide a more cohesive, welcoming environment. Lobby and reception signs can take a wide variety of forms and are useful decoration for waiting areas with a large amount of customer traffic.

4. Directional Signs

Consider standalone directional signs, or rent space from neighboring businesses for wall-mounted directional signs.

                                             5. Monument Signs

Made of heavy materials like stone or concrete, monument signs are best placed at your facility’s entrance, or near the main road for maximum exposure.

6. Vehicle Clings and Wraps

These coatings will not damage vehicles and can help customers to quickly identify and respond positively to your drivers.

                                  7. Window Lettering and Graphics

Window letter and graphics can help you expand your advertising footprint without additional building permits (or running afoul of local signage limitations) and are cheap enough to be printed on an on-demand basis for special events or sales. Place them on your largest front-facing windows or the glass portion of your location’s door.

8. Sidewalk Signs

Sidewalk signs are a perfect mobile solution for bringing in pedestrian traffic. Order a sturdy variety with a chalk or whiteboard face in order to quickly change your message for special events, and simply bring the sign inside when you close.
